S'pore, RI holds joint military exercises
SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore and Indonesia are holding annual military exercises in West Java which will end October 31, the government here said Tuesday.
Codenamed 'Exercise Safkar Indopura', officers and personnel from the Singapore and Indonesian armed forces will take part in drills involving field training, live firing components and battalion command post, the Singaporean defence ministry said in a statement.
The exercises involve Singapore's 3rd Infantry Brigade, 5th Battalion and the Singapore Infantry Regiment, and the 13th Infantry Brigade of the Indonesian Army Strategic Reserves Command, it said.
"Over the years, Exercise Safkar Indopura has enhanced the bilateral exchange of professional knowledge and expertise," the statement said.
"It has also strengthened the friendship and rapport between personnel from both armies," it said.
The exercises are being held from Oct. 20-31. -- AFP
