S'pore, RI curb terrorism, piracy

SINGAPORE: Singaporean and Indonesian defense officials are
working to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fight against
terrorism and high-seas piracy, Singapore's Ministry of Defense
said on Tuesday.

Officials met for a second round of policy talks on Monday, a
statement from the ministry said. The talks were chaired by
Indonesia's Lt. Gen. Johny Lumintang and Singapore's first
permanent secretary of defense, Peter Ho.

"The policy talks provided a useful forum for the two defense
ministries to discuss the progress of bilateral defense relations
and exchange views on regional security and defense matters," it
said.

Officials also discussed "the enhancement of bilateral defense
cooperation to deal with trans-border threats such as terrorism
and piracy," it said. --AP
