SINGAPORE (AP): Singapore posted a new Web site on Wednesday to inform the public about cloning and stem cells and to address the ethical, legal and social issues which can arise from medical research.
The government-appointed Bioethics Advisory Committee set up the site, which defines terms commonly used in medical research and answers frequently asked questions about topics such as stem cells.
The bioethics committee was set up in December 2000 to develop guidelines for researchers in the high-tech city-state.
Singapore has said it wants to become a "life sciences" hub in Asia.
Ariff Bongso, a researcher at a Singapore lab working with embryonic stem cells, recently said he hopes to develop a stem cell production facility "to supply scientists from all over the world."
