S'pore police set up crack bomb team
SINGAPORE: Singapore has established a special bomb investigation unit as part of the city-state's increasing anti-terrorism security measures, Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng said on Thursday.
Wong said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)'s Bomb and Explosive Investigation Division would be an important boost for police in countering the terrorist threat.
Police spokesman Victor Keong said that in the event of a terrorist bomb attack, quickly bringing people to justice was vital to maintain people's faith in Singapore and its law enforcement capabilities.
"The timely determination of what happened, how it happened and who did it, followed by the swift apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators, is one of the most potent symbols of national resilience," Keong told AFP.
The new unit will include people with special forensic skills and a data base of previous terrorist attacks, and will liase with international law enforcement agencies. -- AFP
