S'pore police continue to quiz JI suspect
BATAM, Riau: A Singaporean police team is still questioning Mas Slamet Kastari, believed to be the head of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) in Singapore, the Tanjung Pinang Police chief said on Thursday.
"The 10-member team arrived in Tanjung Pinang on Wednesday and is still questioning the suspect," Adj. Sr. Comr. J. Kwartanto said.
But he could not say whether Mas Selamat was involved in the Oct. 12 bombing in Bali, which killed more than 190 people.
Nor did Kwartanto say when the Singapore police officers would conclude their questioning.
Mas Slamet was arrested last Sunday in Tanjung Pinang on charges of possessing a fake identity card.
The suspect told police he was trying to reach Malaysia when he was arrested, Kwartanto said.
Mas Slamet was quoted by police as saying he worked in the agricultural sector in Indonesia and was a mechanic in Singapore. --Antara
