S'pore police bust drug ring

SINGAPORE (AP): Narcotics officers have arrested 14 Singaporeans suspected of having links with a drug syndicate based on the Indonesian resort island of Batam, the government Teletext news service reported on Saturday.

A total 61 grams of the amphetamine known as ice, Erimin tablets and 250 grams of heroin were also seized in the raid, which ended Friday, the report said.

Officials from the Central Narcotics Bureau and the police force were not available for comment Saturday.

Singapore, known for its tough drug laws, introduced the death penalty for ice-trafficking convictions in 1998.
