S'pore, Malaysia in joint drill

SINGAPORE (Reuter): Singapore and Malaysia will hold a one-day
joint air defense exercise to hone their ability to defend their
airspace, the Singapore Ministry of Defense said yesterday.

"The aim of Minor Adex 97 is to exercise together the air
defense forces of the two regional member nations in preserving
the integrity of the Malaysian and Singapore air space against a
simulated external air threat," a ministry statement said.

The exercise is held today and will involve a variety of
aircraft, including Russian MIG 29 fighters on the Malaysian side
and U.S.-made F-16 fighters from the Singapore Air Force.
