S'pore LNG study moves closer

SINGAPORE: An international field of consultants has been
shortlisted from the 26 vying to carry out a feasibility study on
the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Singapore's power
needs, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) said in a report on
Tuesday.

Industry sources told The Business Times the next step is
likely to be an in-depth review of the remaining tenders,
including further clarification of documents.

Singapore is eyeing LNG to help diversify its energy sources.
Natural gas is currently piped to power stations from Malaysia
and Indonesia, but LNG can be shipped in from any location
worldwide.

The shortlist was expected last month, but whittling the
bidders down took longer than expected because there were so
many. -- DPA
