S'pore, KL talk over list of disputes
MALAYSIA: KL leaders met Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Lee
Hsien Loong on Monday for talks focusing on a list of disputes,
ranging from water supplies to transport links.
The latest row erupted over land reclamation plans, which
Malaysia fears could reduce access for ships heading for one of
its ports on the narrow strait separating the Malay Peninsula and
the island of Singapore.
"We are not happy with what they are doing because we think as
a result of such activity it will effect the ecology ... (and)
the deep water channel," Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi told a news conference after meeting Lee.
Lee, who also met Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, advised the
Malaysian side, who called in Singapore's envoy last week to
register concerns, to put everything down in writing and avoid
letting the media whip up controversy. --Reuters
