S'pore golfers lead W. Cup qualifying
KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore's Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing combined for an eight-under-par 64 in the fourball on Thursday to take a first day lead in a four-day World Cup championship qualifier.
Lam contributed one eagle and four birdies, while Mamat, the current Indian Open champion, carded two birdies on the front nine and holed a 12-foot birdie on the par-five 18th at Kuala Lumpur's Kota Permai Golf and Country Club.
The Singaporeans have a one shot lead over Finland's Janne Mommo and Ari Savolainen. Teams from Malaysia and the Philippines finished two shots back at 66.
The first and third rounds for the World Cup qualifier use the fourball (best ball) format while the second and final rounds will use the foursomes format (alternate shot). -- AP
