SINGAPORE: An engineering group has bagged a deal to design,
build and operate water processing facilities to supply
Yogyakarta with clean water, Boustead Singapore said on Monday.
The cost of the first phase is estimated at US$36 million,
Boustead said, but did not include an estimate for the entire
project.
The processing facilities and transmission pipes will
transport spring water from the neighboring province of Central
Java to Yogyakarta city, Sleman and Bantul regencies.
The project will be carried out in three phases, Boustead
said. The water processing facilities will supply 100,000 cubic
metres of treated water a day on completion of the first phase.
The initial period of the deal with the provincial government
of Yogyakarta is 25 years, which could be extended. -- DPA
