S'pore downplays problems with KL
SINGAPORE (AP): Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will seek a broad
base of cooperation during a two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia's capital, according to an interview published
yesterday.
"I go up with a positive outlook, not to think there are
problems to be solved, but how we can work together," he told the
Straits Times.
Goh downplayed suggestions that the meeting with his Malaysian
counterpart Mahathir Mohammad would be preoccupied with problems
between the two neighbors.
One of the main points of bilateral contention has been the
supply of water from Malaysia, which Singapore depends on.
"I would not want to approach it on an issues basis," Goh
said.
