S'pore dismisses Gus Dur's remarks

SINGAPORE (Agencies): Singapore denied on Tuesday that Senior
Minister Lee Kuan Yew had suggested that Indonesia's President
Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid might step down in two months.

Abdurrahman had previously stated that Lee, during a meeting
between them last month, had suggested that the Indonesian
President would soon step down.

In a report in Thailand's Bangkok Post on Sunday, Abdurrahman
repeated these comments saying that Lee had suggested that the
President might "step down in two months."

Singapore's foreign affairs ministry said in a statement that
Lee "had no reason" to make such a remark.

Lee stepped down as Singapore's prime minister in 1990 after
nearly three decades in power. He continues to wield considerable
political clout as a senior minister.

Singapore's statement on Tuesday was the second of its kind
dismissing Abdurrahman's comments.
