S'pore cracks down on foreign sex workers
SINGAPORE: More than 100 foreign women on Monday faced
deportation and charges for immigration and vice offenses after
police raided a downtown nightclub complex here over the weekend.
The women, from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam,
Mongolia, China and the Philippines, have been investigated for
entering the country illegally or overstaying and are believed to
be sex workers.
Police said the operation at Orchard Towers, a nondescript
commercial building in the shopping belt which turns boisterous
at night, was "part of our ongoing enforcement operations against
immigration and vice offenses".
Orchard Towers, known among some expatriates as the "Four
Floors of Whores", houses nightclubs like the Pink Pussycat and
Crazy Horse and is frequented by tourists and sailors. --AFP
