KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Dozens of Malaysians protested outside the Singapore High Commission yesterday, accusing its government of being "indifferent and arrogant" and demanding the leaders of both countries meet.
The two Southeast Asian neighbors have been at each other's throats for weeks, each accusing the other of bad faith and reneging on deals. The latest flap has been over a disputed railroad checkpoint at Tanjong Pagar.
About 75 members of the Indian Progressive Front, a party belonging to Malaysia's ruling Barisan National coalition called on the Singapore leaders to "come to their senses".
"We have this peaceful demonstration to warn Singapore and its leaders that Tanjong Pagar can be described as a hornet's nest and Singapore and its leaders should not disturb it," the demonstrators said in a letter handed to officials at the Singapore diplomatic compound.
