Spokesperson Confirms No Fire at KPK Building

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Budi Prasetyo has confirmed that no fire occurred at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in Kuningan, Jakarta.

“We confirm that there was no fire at the KPK Merah Putih building,” Budi said in a statement to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday, 29 August 2026.

Budi explained that the smoke seen coming from the building originated from fogging activities being carried out in the building area.

According to him, the fogging smoke triggered the fire detection equipment, causing the automatic fire suppression system to release smoke.

“The fogging smoke was detected by the fire fighting equipment, which then responded by automatically releasing smoke,” he said.

He explained that the fire fighting equipment in the KPK Merah Putih building functions to release extinguishing smoke to address potential sparks in electronic devices.

“So the smoke that appeared was not from a fire, but from the fire fighting equipment,” he said.

Budi said the smoke emission occurred in the basement area, specifically in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery room.

He assured that the situation is under control and the smoke has been minimised using extractors.

“The General Bureau team is currently vacuuming the smoke and conducting checks in other areas to mitigate and prevent potential risks,” Budi said.
