Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The National Workers Union (SPN) in collaboration with the Indonesian Army’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI) distributed basic necessities to residents affected by floods in Aceh Tamiang Regency, prioritising those still sheltering in evacuation tents.

“We hope this modest assistance can ease the burden on our brothers and sisters in Aceh Tamiang,” said SPN representative Asep Saefulloh in Aceh Tamiang on Thursday.

The flood relief was channelled through a designated coordinator, Aceh Tamiang Regency’s Deputy Regent (DPRK) Syaiful Bahri.

Saefulloh stated that the aid was the result of donations from workers and labourers across Indonesia. Even though the group undertook a four-day road journey from Jakarta, they were committed to being present on the ground to see conditions for themselves.

“This is a manifestation of our partnership with BAIS TNI and the Regional People’s Representative Council to help others,” he said.

As coordinator, Syaiful Bahri explained that the aid reflects the concern of labour elements and the TNI for communities affected by floods, especially ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

“We prioritise distribution to residents who are still living in evacuation tents, such as in Kota Lintang Village, Kota Kuala Simpang Sub-district and Kampung Durian Village in Rantau Sub-district,” he added.

The aid distributed includes: 568 packages of rice (5 kg each), 650 bottles of cooking oil, 750 cans of condensed milk, 550 packs of tapioca flour, 600 packs of granulated sugar, 600 boxes of tea bags, and 350 cartons of instant noodles.

“Distribution is carried out door-to-door to recipients, not concentrated at a single village point. We want to ensure those truly in need receive their rights,” said the retired TNI officer.

Meanwhile, M Faisal, also known as Ucok, chairman of the Village Assembly (MDSK) of Kota Lintang Village, praised the aid, noting that many residents will be celebrating Eid al-Fitr in evacuation tents or under bridges due to their homes being uninhabitable after the flood.

“We are very grateful to SPN and BAIS TNI for showing sympathy to our people. This package of basic necessities is very meaningful for our people who are currently experiencing severe shortages,” he said.
