The Riau Provincial Education Office has released registration data for the 2026/2027 New Student Admission System (SPMB), revealing an uneven distribution of applicants across schools and regions.

Head of the Riau Education Office, Erisman Yahya, stated that Pekanbaru recorded the highest number of applicants. From a quota of 11,611 seats, 13,340 prospective students have selected schools. Meanwhile, Kampar Regency has the largest quota at 13,170 seats, with 9,642 active registrants.

Bengkalis Regency has a quota of 11,884 seats with 8,675 active registrants, while Rokan Hulu recorded 6,687 applicants for 10,337 seats. In Siak, there are 6,105 applicants for 9,191 seats, Rokan Hilir has 6,943 applicants for 8,355 seats, and Indragiri Hilir recorded 5,396 applicants for 7,730 seats.

Pelalawan Regency has 5,018 applicants for 6,891 seats, Indragiri Hulu has 6,368 applicants for 6,982 seats, and Kuantan Singingi has 4,717 applicants for 6,861 seats. The Kepulauan Meranti Regency recorded 1,679 applicants for 2,547 seats, whilst Dumai City saw 4,569 applicants for 4,037 seats, exceeding its capacity.

Erisman explained that the highest competition levels are in Pekanbaru and Dumai, where applicants exceed available seats. However, the concentration of interest in certain schools means the distribution of prospective students remains uneven. This situation could result in some state senior high schools and vocational schools, including those in Pekanbaru, still having unfilled quotas after the re-registration process is complete.
