SPKLU Charging Unit Collapses After Being Pulled by Jaecoo J5 Bumper, PLN Assures Swift Response
YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An incident involving a collapsed charging unit at a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) in Yogyakarta, caused by a Jaecoo J5 EV pulling on it, has prompted immediate action from relevant parties.
PT PLN (Persero) confirmed that comprehensive security measures have been implemented at the scene.
The incident occurred at the SPKLU Center PLN UID Yogyakarta on Friday (15/05/2026) at approximately 8:26 PM local time. It began when a customer was charging their vehicle using a 200 kW Ultra Fast Charging unit.
During the charging process, the driver attempted to reposition the vehicle because they felt the cable wasn’t long enough. Unfortunately, the charging cable became entangled with an additional bumper accessory on the rear of the vehicle.
Wonosari Agung Pratomo, Manager of UP3 Yogyakarta, stated that PLN personnel immediately responded by isolating the area to ensure safety.
“PLN personnel promptly took security measures by disconnecting power to the affected device and securing the surrounding area. There were no casualties in this incident,” Agung said in an official statement on Sunday (17/05/2026).
The charging unit has been temporarily deactivated to facilitate a technical assessment and further investigation with relevant parties.
Learning from this incident, PLN emphasizes that the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem must be accompanied by shared awareness in maintaining the safety of charging infrastructure.
Agung added that education on the proper use of SPKLUs is an important part of supporting a sustainable national electric vehicle ecosystem.
Therefore, PLN urges all electric vehicle users to always follow correct charging procedures for everyone’s safety. Users are expected to ensure the vehicle is properly positioned before connecting the charger nozzle and should not move the vehicle before the charging cable is completely disconnected.
In addition, customers are reminded to pay attention to the position of the cable to prevent it from being pulled, pinched, or caught on any vehicle components during the charging process.
If technical issues arise at the location, customers are advised to immediately request assistance from SPKLU personnel.
For electric vehicle users in the Yogyakarta area, there is no need to worry, as PLN assures that SPKLU services at other locations remain operational and safe for use as usual.
