SPHP Rice Prices Confirmed to Remain Stable, Purchases Limited to 25 Kg

The Head of the National Food Agency and Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, has confirmed that the price of Stabilisation of Supply and Price of Food (SPHP) rice remains stable. The government will not raise the price of this programme. “There is something called SPHP. That is rice to balance if anyone wants to raise prices. For SPHP, we will not increase it. The price remains as it is now. So now the quality is good because the fertiliser is good, on time, the right volume, and the water is good,” Amran said when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday (24/4/2026). The SPHP rice programme continues to operate with the same highest retail price. The government has also set a purchase limit for each consumer. The maximum purchase limit is set at 25 kilograms or five 5-kilogram packages. This regulation aims to prevent unfair practices in the market. The realisation of SPHP rice distribution is increasing. Throughout March 2026, distribution reached 70.01 thousand tonnes. The period from early April to 23 April recorded a realisation of 69.85 thousand tonnes or 99.77 percent. This figure nearly exceeds the previous month’s achievement. Bapanas is also addressing plastic packaging constraints. Discussions are being held with Perum Bulog. Stock of packaging from 2023 to 2025, around 12.3 million sheets, is proposed for use. Usage must still comply with product information and be strictly supervised. Amran responded to public scrutiny regarding the purchase restriction. Public communication expert Hendri Satrio assessed that the restriction could trigger perceptions of limited stock. “The point is this, Mr Minister. The words ‘purchase restriction’, that is quote unquote, as if our rice is indeed only a little because there is a purchase restriction,” said Hensa. “This is restricted because this is a government subsidy to act as a balancer. So this will definitely lower prices. If not restricted (they could) buy up one truck (and then) resell it,” Amran stated.
