Speeding Pickup Truck Hits Motorcyclist, Killing Rider in Gunungkidul

A collision between a pickup truck and two motorcycles occurred on Jogja-Wonosari Road, Km 25, Widoro Kulon, Bunder, Patuk, Gunungkidul, resulting in one motorcyclist’s death at the scene. Patuk Police Station Traffic Unit Head AKP Paryadi stated that the incident began when a pickup truck driven by EJK, a Bantul resident, was travelling from Jogja to Wonosari at 3:25 PM WIB. The vehicle was on its way to collect qurban animals from Gunungkidul. ‘Due to rushing to collect the sacrificial animals, the pickup overtook the vehicle in front and collided with two oncoming motorcycles,’ he told reporters on Tuesday (26/5/2026). The impact damaged the front of the pickup, while both motorcycles sustained severe damage from the collision, Paryadi added. ‘The deceased was a motorcyclist identified as M (57), a resident of Tanjungsari, Gunungkidul. Details of the other casualties are still being compiled,’ he said. Paryadi added that, based on preliminary data, two people sustained minor injuries, while another suffered serious injuries. ‘All injured individuals have been taken to hospital,’ he said. Paryadi further stated that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. ‘We are currently gathering witness statements and processing the crime scene; updates will be provided if there are developments,’ he said.
