Speeding car kills four people in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Four men died instantly and a woman was left in critical condition when they were hit by a speeding car in front of the City Hall here on Saturday evening.

An eyewitness said the driver of a Honda Accord, was traveling at a high speed in an attempt to overtake a car only to find another vehicle coming toward him in the opposite direction.

The driver of the car, Michael Evan (17), an East Bogor resident, swerved abruptly to the right and hit two pedestrians, killing them both.

The vehicle already out of control, again hit and killed two other men and knocked another woman unconscious. Iyan, an eyewitness, believed that Evan must have been drunk before driving.

Bogor Police rushed the five victims to the local hospital after receiving reports from security guards at the City Hall and local residents.

Of the five, only three were identified. The three were Herman (25), Ammo (28), both from the village of Kemang, Parung district and Etti (22), from Ciheuleut, North Bogor, who is receiving treatment in hospital.

The other two victims have not yet been identified. The driver of the Accord only suffered light injuries.

Jaka, a relative of Ammo, said at the hospital on Sunday that his brother-in-law used to sell ice at the local market. He left the market that night never to return.(21)
