Speeding ambulance kills two

TANGERANG: An ambulance collided with a motorcycle taxi, or ojek, late on Sunday near the Duta Garden housing estate in Benda district, killing both the ojek driver and his passenger.

Witnesses said the ambulance, which serves the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, was speeding on its way to the airport at 10:15 p.m.

Ojek driver Syarifuddin, 35, who came from the opposite direction, also at high speeds, lost control and the vehicles collided. Syarifuddin and passenger Royafini, 31, were thrown off the motorcycle.

Deputy chief of the Tangerang traffic police, Insp. Titik Setiowati, said they were handling the case. -- JP
