Speedboat Captain Dies After 10 Days in Hospital Following Labuan Bajo Reef Collision

The captain of the Hook Up speedboat has died after 10 days of treatment. The captain, Tohak, 56, passed away at Siloam Hospital in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. Tohak was previously injured when the tourist boat he was skippering struck a reef in the waters north of Bidadari Island, Labuan Bajo, on Saturday, 11 July 2026. Tohak fell from the speedboat’s bridge. “That’s correct, he died yesterday,” said the Head of the Water and Air Police Unit for West Manggarai Police, First Inspector Leonardo Marpaung, when confirmed on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. Tohak’s body was taken to his hometown. “Taken to Banyuwangi,” Leonardo said. The tourist boat that hit the reef was carrying six domestic tourists. There were no other casualties. Only the captain was injured after falling from the boat’s bridge. “The boat hit a coral reef on the north coast of Bidadari Island. The boat lost control, moving erratically until it finally came to rest on the northern coast of Bidadari Island,” said the Head of the Class III Labuan Bajo Port Authority and Harbormaster Office, Stephanus Risdiyanto, when confirmed on Saturday, 11 July 2026. “When the collision with the reef occurred, the captain was injured because he fell from the boat’s bridge,” he continued.
