An accident occurred in the Muara Jalur 8 waters, Upang Ceria Village, Muara Telang District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. A passenger speedboat was reported to have broken up and sunk after being struck by a large wave on Thursday morning, 5 March 2026, around 09:00 WIB. The incident left one passenger dead.

Head of the Banyuasin Police’s Water Police Unit, Ajun Komisaris Polisi Ammukminin, confirmed the accident. “Yes, a speedboat accident occurred in the Muara Telang waters. According to information gathered, the speedboat, owned by Haras Group, was crossing the Muara Telang waters when suddenly a large wave struck the hull. The collision caused the speedboat to break apart and sink, triggering panic among the passengers. Local residents and other passengers attempted rescue as the vessel began to founder.

One passenger, named Daryanti (55), a resident of RT 18 Dusun IV, Telang Jaya Village, Muara Telang District, could not be saved. The victim was evacuated from the scene and taken to a funeral home in Telang Jaya for the family to lay her to rest.

Police and related parties are continuing to conduct further data collection regarding the number of passengers and the process of recovering the wreckage of the speedboat from the scene.

The incident serves as a reminder to communities operating on waterways to stay vigilant, especially in conditions of high waves that can threaten maritime safety.
