Speculated as Bali Gubernatorial Candidate, Nyoman Parta Chooses to Focus on Role as DPR Member
Several names are being touted to liven up the contest for the 2029 Bali Gubernatorial Election. One figure mentioned as a potential candidate for Bali governor is Nyoman Parta.
Parta is currently a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). The PDIP politician was reluctant to comment on his chances of running in the Regional Head Election (Pilkada). Parta emphasised that he is still focused on completing his duties as a member of the house.
“The Pilkada is still 3.5 or 4 years away. I choose to focus on completing my tasks in Senayan,” said Parta when met at the Bali Governor’s Office on Thursday (7/5/2026).
Parta also declined to respond to comments from netizens on social media urging him to run as a candidate for Bali governor. According to him, it is still too early to discuss candidacy.
“Well, what can I say, these days it’s the era of the virtual world. I also don’t know who those friends are who said that,” said Parta.
“Elections are the same; the laws haven’t been discussed yet. So it’s too early to talk about (governor election) matters,” added the politician from Guwang Village, Gianyar.
It is known that Parta is a DPR RI member from Bali’s electoral district who garnered the most votes in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg) with 281,688 votes. Before advancing to Senayan, Parta also served as a member of the Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD).
