Spectacular JAT Display Enhanced by Smoke Generating System Developed by Air Force Research and Development Service

The spectacular display by the Jupiter Aerobatic Team (JAT) during the dress rehearsal for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Saturday (15/8/2026) was enhanced by a smoke generating system (SGS). Every JAT aerial demonstration featured technology developed by the Air Force Research and Development Service (Dislitbangau).

Thanks to this technological touch, the JAT aerial display above Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta became even more captivating. Each manoeuvre was clearly visible with red and white smoke bursts from the tail of the KT-1B Woong Bee aircraft, consistently drawing public attention.

“This technology was developed by Dislitbangau to support making every JAT manoeuvre more meaningful and interesting to watch,” said Colonel Sonaji Wibowo, Head of Public Information for the National Air Operations Command (Kapen Koopsudnas), in Jakarta on Sunday (16/8/2026).

According to Sonaji, the SGS works together with a smoke oil system (SOS), producing smoke trails that trace the JAT aircraft’s flight path during aerial manoeuvres. These trails clarify the patterns and formations of the JAT, making them easier for spectators to see while also serving as an important visual element of the aerial display.
