Specifications of the East Kalimantan Governor's Official Car, Priced at IDR 8.5 Billion

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The new official car for the Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, with a budget of IDR 8.5 billion, has become a topic of public discussion.

Aside from the budget polemic, this vehicle is interesting to examine from a technical perspective as it falls into the category of a high-performance 3.000 cc plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV with premium off-road capabilities.

Based on the circulating specifications, the vehicle is suspected to be a variant of the Range Rover Autobiography LWB PHEV or a comparable model in the luxury SUV class.

The car features a 3.0-liter (approximately 2,996 cc) turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor. The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) system allows the vehicle to run on pure electric power for a certain distance before the petrol engine assists.

The electric motor has an output of approximately 140 kW, supported by a battery with a capacity of around 38.2 kWh. With this capacity, the pure electric mode can be used for short trips in urban areas with lower emissions.

All-Wheel Drive System and Adaptive Suspension

As a flagship SUV, this car has a permanent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This system automatically distributes power to all four wheels according to traction needs.

In challenging terrain such as rocky or muddy roads, which are common in East Kalimantan’s infrastructure project areas and remote areas, AWD helps maintain stability and prevent wheel slippage.

Furthermore, vehicles in this class are generally equipped with adaptive air suspension, which can raise or lower the ground clearance.

When traversing rough roads, the vehicle’s height can be increased to avoid undercarriage impacts. Conversely, when driving on highways, the position can be lowered for stability and comfort.

Traction management systems such as Terrain Response are also usually available, allowing the driver to select the driving mode according to the surface conditions—ranging from sand, mud, to rocks.

Executive Cabin and VVIP Features

As a long wheelbase (LWB) variant, the rear cabin space is one of the main advantages. An executive-style seat configuration with complete electric adjustment, ventilation, and massage features is commonly available in this class.
