JAKARTA - The Indonesian Air Force’s (TNI AU) Airbus A400M aircraft played a crucial role in transporting the tactical Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine vehicle, typically used by President Prabowo Subianto in Indonesia, to Cebu, Philippines. The Maung vehicle that picked up Prabowo in the Philippines drew particular attention during the 48th ASEAN Summit on 7-8 May 2026. Its presence was seen as part of efforts to showcase Indonesia’s defence industry capacity on the international stage. Moreover, this step also demonstrated the government’s confidence in national defence industry products. The presidential vehicle Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine, produced by PT Pindad, arrived in Cebu, Philippines, earlier on 4 May 2026. The vehicle was transported directly from Indonesia using the TNI AU’s Airbus A400M aircraft. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasised that the use of the Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine in an international forum carries broader significance beyond merely serving as a presidential operational vehicle. “The use of Maung in this international forum is not just about transportation, but as a symbol of national self-reliance, the nation’s confidence, and the progress of Indonesia’s national industry. Maung becomes a symbol of diplomacy. From within the country, for Indonesia, present on the world stage,” said Teddy. After being used during the 48th ASEAN Summit series, the Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine was brought back to Indonesia using the TNI AU’s Airbus A400M aircraft. The vehicle’s return concluded the diplomatic journey of this product of the nation’s ingenuity in the Philippines. This military transport aircraft has various advantages and capable specifications. Quoting the official airbus.com website, the A400M can have a maximum capacity to carry up to 37 tonnes of payload. The aircraft’s storage volume reaches 340 m³ with a 4x4 metre area. Not only that, the A400M can also reach a maximum altitude of 40,000 feet and has a maximum speed of up to 0.72 Mach. This A400M aircraft has a longer range compared to medium-sized transport aircraft. Furthermore, the 12 wheels on the landing gear make the load distribution on this model more stable. The A400M aircraft can also land on short or uneven runways. In addition to accommodating more cargo, the A400M is equipped with fuel tanks with a maximum capacity of 51 tonnes, allowing the aircraft to be operated for longer-duration missions.
