Special team seeks bomb suspect

JAKARTA: Police said on Thursday that a 123 member antiterrorist bomb squad had been formed to track down Tarmizi, 21, one of the main suspects in the New Year's Day grenade blast on Jl. Bulungan, South Jakarta.

"The squad, led by Adj. Sr. Comr. Carlo B Tewu, will hunt down the suspect inside and outside the capital," said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam.

Anton said the squad would cooperate with Aceh Police Headquarters to pursue Tarmizi who is reportedly from Sigli, Aceh.

Tarmizi is suspected of being an associate of Hasbullah, a suspect who died while carrying the grenade, in the failed grenade attack supposedly targeting new year revelers in front of Blok M Plaza in South Jakarta. --JP
