Jakarta — The Class I Immigration Office, TPI and the KSOP Main Tanjung Priok have launched a dedicated passport service for seafarers in the area. ‘Now, seafarers no longer need to travel long distances or queue at immigration offices; the doorstep service has arrived at their doorstep,’ said Imam Setiawan, head of the Tanjung Priok Immigration Office, in Jakarta on Friday. He said that the presence of an ‘Immigration Corner’ in Indonesia’s busiest port area would further facilitate crew in processing residence permits. He said that the service innovation focuses on speed and efficiency. ‘Thus, the passport application process, from document submission to biometric collection, can now be completed directly within the port area,’ he said. He noted that the program aims to accelerate the mobility of national and international crew whose docking schedules are tightly timed. ‘We understand that time is of the essence for a seafarer. With this Immigration Corner, we provide legal certainty and convenient service right at the heart of their operations,’ he said. Previously, seafarers were often constrained by time during port stays, which are short for handling travel documents. He hopes that the presence of this outreach outlet will remove those obstacles, allowing these nation’s foreign exchange heroes to sail again with complete documents without anxiety.
