A teacher at a Special Needs School (SLB) in the city of Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), has been reported to police after allegedly sexually assaulting one of his 17-year-old female students.

The legal representative of the victim’s family has filed an official police report with the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Yogyakarta City Police Criminal Investigation Division.

Hilmi Miftahzen, the victim’s legal counsel, said his client reported the teacher, identified by the initials IM, for alleged sexual abuse committed on multiple occasions during November and December 2025.

“There were actions that were, shall we say, unethical carried out by this individual teacher,” Hilmi said when met at the Yogyakarta City Police headquarters on Friday (20 February).

According to Hilmi, the acts committed by IM, based on the victim’s testimony, occurred both inside and outside the classroom during school hours. There are even allegations that the perpetrator carried out indecent acts whilst other students were present.

“Her account indicates it happened several times, though we do not yet know exactly how many,” he said.

Hilmi explained that the victim only disclosed IM’s actions to her parents and subsequently to officers at their local police station in January 2026. The victim is currently suffering from trauma, though not severely.

The legal team expressed hope that the police report would be accepted and swiftly processed, so that the perpetrator could be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Meanwhile, PPA Unit Chief of the Yogyakarta City Police Criminal Investigation Division, Inspector Apri Sawitri, confirmed that the report from Hilmi’s team was currently being processed.

“It concerns an indecent act against a child. Please wait for the official police report,” Apri said.

Separately, the Head of the DIY Education and Sports Agency (Disdikpora), Suhirman, stated that his office would form a team to investigate the case further, including examining IM, who holds civil servant status.

So far, only an internal school investigation has been conducted. According to Suhirman, IM admitted to his actions when questioned by the school principal.

As a result, Suhirman said, IM has been suspended from all teaching activities at the school. Furthermore, to maintain a conducive environment, he will be transferred to the Disdikpora DIY office or placed on non-active duty whilst the investigation proceeds.

According to information from Disdikpora DIY, IM began teaching at the school in 2023, having previously served at a private special needs school.

“We have coordinated with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) to arrange support services, though that also requires agreement from the family,” Suhirman said at his office.
