A special needs school (SLB) teacher in Jogja who is suspected of sexually harassing a female student has been formally designated as a suspect. Police have also sent a summons letter to the teacher with the initials IN.

“The designation of suspect has been completed,” said Riski Adrian, Head of Criminal Investigation at Jogja Police (Kompol), when contacted on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

However, Riski stated that IN has not yet been detained as the summons letter was only sent today. “We sent the summons letter today, for Friday (13 March),” explained Riski.

IN was previously examined as a questioned witness on Thursday (5 March) last week. However, at that time police still needed to complete several documents before designating suspect status.

“The questioned witness came to fulfil the summons previously,” said Riski when contacted on Friday (6 March). “We are still awaiting the psychologist’s examination results from the relevant department. After that, we will proceed with the suspect designation. The psychological examination is to establish the victim’s account,” he added.

Previously, IN was reported by the victim’s representative to the Unit for Protection of Women and Children (PPA) at Jogja Police on Friday (20 February). The victim’s legal representative, Hilmi Miftazen, declined to comment extensively on the harassment case as it remains under investigation.

“This report concerns allegations of sexual harassment committed by a teacher at one of the special needs schools in Yogyakarta,” explained Hilmi after filing the report at Jogja Police headquarters on Friday (20 February 2026). “We may not be able to name the school yet as it is still being handled by the PPA investigator. We also cannot disclose the details as the investigation is still ongoing,” he added.

However, Hilmi disclosed that the incident occurred in November-December 2025. The victim’s family became aware of it after the female student recounted the teacher’s actions to them.

“The victim first told her parents about it, though not in detail. Because of this, the victim’s family consulted with an NGO (NGO Harimau), and then NGO Harimau contacted us. The victim’s mother mentioned it happened since November 2025,” he explained.

“There were actions that were ethically inappropriate and performed by the teacher. We consider this disgusting because these children deserve their right to education,” Hilmi continued.

The victim is a child with special needs born in 2009. As a result of the incident, the victim is reported to have experienced trauma.

“The victim has experienced some trauma, particularly as she has special needs. It is therefore difficult to establish exact dates and other details,” Hilmi added.
