Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto announced the formation of a Special Export State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN Khusus Ekspor) for exports of coal, palm oil and ferro alloys. The entity is named PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia.

In the initial phase, activities of the Special Export SOE will commence in June 2026, according to Rosan P. Roeslani, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara. ‘In order to improve and perfect governance, and to uphold high standards of governance openly, we will start from June to December. All export-related transactions shall, for the time being, be channelled through the BUMN,’ he said at a press conference presenting the Macro Economic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy Issues for the 2027 Budget, in the Parliament Complex, 20 May 2026.

Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, said the body will manage the exports of three main commodities: coal, palm oil and ferro alloys (iron alloy). In the initial phase, exports via this BUMN will be conducted between companies and buyers overseas. ‘This will apply for three months, and a subsequent evaluation will be conducted by the export BUMN. In other words, all operations will be carried out entirely by Danantara.’

Under the Government Regulation framework for the governance of SDA commodity exports as outlined by President Prabowo Subianto, the following was explained:

Phase I: (Export processing)

From 1 June to 31 August 2026

  • Companies must shift their transactions to the BUMN

  • The BUMN must transact and contract with all foreign buyers

Phase II: (Export processing)

From 1 September 2026

  • Transactions and contracts with foreign buyers -> entirely BUMN

  • Responsibility and authority for export management -> BUMN
