Special detectives squads set up

JAKARTA (JP): The National Police have established five special detective squads to back up city police operations against the capital's escalating crime rate.

National Police Detective Corps Commander Maj. Gen. Da'i Bachtiar said Monday the squads, totaling 250 officers, were expected to further strengthen operations against armed robberies, lootings and other criminal acts.

"We want to do our best to curb crimes which cause serious disturbances in society. These teams are well-equipped," Da'i said.

"They will move fast and always be on alert and are very efficient. Hopefully we can nail more criminals."

The special squads will be coordinated with other police units, he added. (edt)
