Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta DPRD has pledged to resolve the rubbish problem in Jakarta following a reduction in waste disposal quotas due to a rubbish mountain landslide incident at the Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) Bantargebang in Bekasi, West Java, some time ago.

The leadership of the Special Committee (Pansus) on Waste Management was officially appointed during a deliberation led by Deputy Chairman of the Jakarta DPRD, Wibi Andrino, in the Commission D room of the Jakarta DPRD on Wednesday (8/4). Judistira Hermawan was appointed as Chairman of the Waste Management Pansus, assisted by Husen as Vice Chairman.

In his statement in Jakarta on Thursday, Judistira Hermawan emphasised that his side would focus on preparing concrete recommendations to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, to improve the waste management system, which is deemed not yet optimal.

“We will provide constructive recommendations on waste management to Mr Pram,” said Judistira.

He highlighted the high volume of waste in Jakarta, which has reached more than 7,000 tonnes per day, as well as the condition of Jakarta’s TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi City, which is increasingly full.

“With such a large waste volume, the pressure on Bantargebang is increasing, so serious steps are needed, starting from reduction at the source, increased recycling, to the construction of modern processing facilities,” said Judistira.

The formation of the pansus is expected to accelerate the formulation of strategic and comprehensive policies in waste handling, while supporting efforts to realise a cleaner and healthier Jakarta.

Judistira promised that the pansus would promote policies that not only solve short-term issues but also provide long-term solutions to the waste crisis in the capital.

He said there are high expectations from the public regarding the performance of the pansus, including the major target of making Jakarta cleaner in the coming years.

“There are many hopes expressed by the public. Our success through this pansus, at least until 2030, Jakarta will be free from waste. Then, Bantargebang, which is already overloaded today, certainly cannot continue to receive waste from us,” said the Chairman of the Golkar Faction of the Jakarta DPRD.

“Through the pansus, we will discuss everything that needs our attention, so that its management is even better. Today, we just send it away; in the future, there must be a system change,” Judistira added.

On that occasion, he also emphasised the importance of synergy between the DPRD and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in resolving the waste issue, without blaming each other.

“We are not looking for faults in other parties, but together the Jakarta DPRD and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Pramono Anung will provide constructive recommendations so that this waste problem can be resolved well,” Judistira revealed.

The waste issue, he added, is not just about cleanliness but also about the city’s sustainability.

“We want to ensure that Jakarta has a strong, integrated waste management system and no longer fully dependent on Bantargebang,” Judistira concluded.
