Special Code! The Moments Activist Kontras Andrie Yunus Was Stalked by 4 Suspects
Metro Jaya Police have revealed strong suspicions that the pouring of hazardous liquid on Kontras activist Andrie Yunus was a premeditated act. Based on CCTV recordings, the hazardous liquid attack is indicated as a highly sophisticated operation, where the victim was tailed starting from when he left the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Jl. Pangeran Diponegoro, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (12/3).
Investigators have successfully mapped the movements of the perpetrators up to the execution point. It is known that the victim entered the YLBHI office at 19:45 WIB to participate in a podcast event and only left the location at 23:22 WIB.
“It was monitored there that the victim entered the YLBHI office to attend a podcast activity, then subsequently it was monitored that the victim exited the YLBHI office, and from the YLBHI office onwards, based on the CCTV we obtained, there were already unidentified suspected perpetrators following,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference at the Ditreskrimum Building of Metro Jaya Police, Wednesday (18/3).
Police found a very neat coordination pattern in the field. CCTV shows one perpetrator monitoring from outside the YLBHI office walking on the pavement as the victim was about to exit. This perpetrator then gave a “code” to two of his accomplices who were already waiting with a motorcycle across the street.
The signal served as a command for the execution team to begin close tailing.
“After being given the code that the victim had exited, then he was followed by one motorcycle ridden by two people whom we suspect as the executors,” explained Iman.
Not only the executor motorcycle, police also identified a second vehicle that played a role in layered monitoring or surveillance. This is depicted when the victim refuelled at a petrol station not far from the scene.
“It was monitored after the petrol station position, there were already those waiting; this is part of the suspected perpetrator group, a second vehicle conducting monitoring of the victim,” revealed Iman.
The climax of the terror action occurred at 23:37 WIB as the victim passed through Jalan Salemba 1. Surveillance cameras recorded the moments when two executor perpetrators splashed chemical liquid, while the second vehicle followed alongside the victim to ensure the action ran smoothly. After carrying out the action, the perpetrators were seen fleeing in different directions.
One of the executors is suspected to have been hit by splashes of the hazardous liquid while fleeing towards Jalan Diponegoro. The recording shows they stopped briefly to clean body parts using mineral water.
In fact, police stated that the executor motorcycle driver was forced to change clothes because he was hit by the same liquid.
“The one wearing the red T-shirt, we suspect his outer clothing was removed because it appears at the scene he was wearing a shirt with a blue batik pattern,” said Iman, showing CCTV footage.
This match is reinforced by daytime CCTV recordings before the incident showing the perpetrator still wearing the batik. Currently, police have identified two main executor suspects with initials BHC and MAK.
This planned attack caused Andrie Yunus to suffer serious burns up to 24 percent, covering areas of the face, eyes, chest, to hands. To date, the Kontras activist is still undergoing intensive treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
