Special Cell for Kidnapping Suspect, Roy Suryo's Pretrial: A Roundup of Legal Events
A number of legal events drew attention on Wednesday, including the placement of a kidnapping suspect in a special cell and a pretrial motion filed by a former minister. The West Java Regional Police have placed Taufik Hidayat, a suspect in the confinement and abuse of a woman, in a special isolation cell. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated the suspect is being held alone in a cell equipped with CCTV and under strict supervision. Meanwhile, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned the Head of the Jakarta Class I Railway Engineering Centre, Ferdian Suryo Adhi Pramono, as a witness in a corruption case related to railway construction and maintenance projects at the Directorate General of Railways. The Attorney General’s Office also revealed 12 corruption cases involving state officials and private parties, causing massive state losses and impacting the national economy, natural resource management, and public interest. One highlighted case involves tin trading at PT Timah Tbk from 2015 to 2022. In a separate case, the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps searched the Juanda Customs and Excise Office in Sidoarjo over alleged corruption in illegal mobile phone imports, examining an employee as a witness. Lastly, former minister Roy Suryo has filed a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court challenging his arrest and search by Polda Metro Jaya investigators in a defamation case concerning the authenticity of former President Joko Widodo’s diploma. The pretrial hearing is scheduled for Monday, 29 June 2026.
