Special Assistant Inaugurated as UI Professor, Pramono Asks for Help with Jakarta's Issues

Firdaus stated that the encouragement from Pramono has been one of the motivators in his career journey, including after officially holding the title of professor. He mentioned that Pramono asked for his various innovative ideas to be truly implemented to help Jakarta.

“Governor, of course, asks that the innovative thoughts to solve Jakarta’s problems, I must help. And that is indeed my task in Jakarta,” said Firdaus after the inauguration event on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

According to Firdaus, one of the most pressing issues currently facing Jakarta is the securing of the coastal areas. He emphasised the importance of accelerating the northern coast protection programme from the threat of tidal floods and rising sea levels.

“The most urgent is related to coastal security. The government has established the North Jakarta Coast Management Authority, and in the near future, the Giant Sea Wall or sea embankment will be built,” he said.

He explained that the concept of water management in Jakarta has actually been designed for a long time since he was active at City Hall in 2005. Experience working across leadership eras has made those ideas ready to be implemented now.

“Those ideas have actually become part of the planning for Jakarta’s water governance. So, it’s just about how we execute and perfect them,” he clarified.

Firdaus also expressed gratitude for his inauguration as a professor at UI. He said this achievement is the result of a long journey in his academic and professional career in water management.

“First, I am grateful to be inaugurated as a permanent professor at FTUI today. This is a very long journey, and alhamdulillah, I can reach this point,” he added.
