Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, officially opened the first session of the 2026-2027 DPR year at a plenary meeting on Friday, 14 August 2026.

Puan stated that the DPR, together with the government, has completed 28 bills into law. During the first session, the DPR and the government will focus on deliberating 14 draft laws and continue drafting 48 other bills, including the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

In its oversight function, the DPR ensures that government performance delivers an increasingly better impact on people’s lives. This includes highlighting issues of public concern that require follow-up, such as the resolution of legal cases, relaxation of regional civil service spending, protection of migrant workers and online transport workers, expansion of employment opportunities, anticipation of forest fires, availability of water for agriculture, evaluation of education budget governance, investment promotion, layoffs, and BPJS Kesehatan.

Regarding the State Budget Bill and Financial Note, the DPR noted that the 2027 state budget could approach Rp 4,000 trillion. Therefore, the state budget’s performance must meet the people’s needs so that their lives improve, bringing together growth and equity, economic progress and social justice.
