Speaker of Parliament Urges Smooth Homecoming Travel and Stable Basic Commodity Prices Ahead of Eid
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hopes that the implementation of the 2026 homecoming travel (mudik) will run smoothly. Puan has requested that prices of basic commodities remain stable ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
Puan has instructed commissions in the House of Representatives to hold meetings with relevant ministries regarding the implementation of this year’s homecoming travel. She believes there must be anticipatory measures to prevent unwanted incidents.
“And as I have conveyed some time ago, we in the House of Representatives will ask all relevant commissions to be able to call or hold meetings with all related ministries and institutions in anticipation of the upcoming Eid,” said Puan at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Puan has requested that prices of basic commodities remain stable ahead of Eid. She wants the implementation of Eid al-Fitr 2026 to proceed smoothly and comfortably for the public.
“Not only transportation, not only ticket prices, but also safety when they are preparing for and returning from homecoming travel,” said Puan.
“Also regarding basic commodity prices. We must not let people be unable to celebrate Eid al-Fitr because of price increases,” she added.
Puan wants to ensure that the homecoming travel is conducted safely. She has asked the ministries to anticipate basic commodity prices whilst ensuring the comfort of travellers is guaranteed.
“So the House of Representatives has just begun its session, we will ask all relevant commissions to be able to hold working meetings with the ministries and relevant stakeholders to anticipate measures ahead of Eid al-Fitr regarding these prices. Not only cheap prices, but also safety and comfort when they depart for and return from homecoming travel,” she said.
