Jakarta — The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Puan Maharani stated that relevant commissions within the DPR RI will request clarification from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) regarding the implementation of Alert Status One.

She acknowledged that it is appropriate for military personnel to maintain a state of readiness at all times, but questioned the TNI’s rationale in implementing this particular status.

“However, if such an order has been issued in a situation like this, one must ask whether it is necessary,” said Puan following a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to her, the TNI must provide clear and concrete explanations to the DPR RI. The relevant commission overseeing defence matters is Commission I of the DPR RI.

Previously, information circulated among the public regarding a telegram from the TNI Commander bearing Number TR/283/2026. The telegram contained instructions for Alert Status One to all TNI units to anticipate potential escalation of conflict in the Middle East. The telegram outlined seven specific points of instruction.

One of the key points stipulated that the TNI Operational Commander shall mobilise personnel and equipment under its command and conduct patrols at strategic vital objects and economic centres. This includes airports, seaports and river ports, railway stations, bus terminals, and state electricity company (PLN) offices.

Regarding this matter, the Head of the TNI Main Headquarters Information Centre, Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the TNI’s primary duty is to protect the nation and its people from foreign threats.

“The TNI operates professionally and responsively, demonstrated through the continuous maintenance of capabilities and strength to remain operationally ready and prepared to anticipate developments in the international, regional, and national strategic environment,” said Aulia in response to inquiries about the TNI alert status.
