Spares Sales Boost as Consumers Delay New Car Purchases

The slowdown in new car sales is having a positive impact on the vehicle spare parts business. Consumers are increasingly choosing to retain their current vehicles for longer periods, leading to an increased demand for vehicle maintenance, particularly within the aftermarket market.

Amidst economic conditions that have prompted some consumers to postpone new car purchases, the need to replace worn-out components remains unavoidable. This situation has become a key driver for growth in spare parts sales throughout this year.

“In my view, given the current economic conditions, people are continuing to use their older vehicles, which requires maintenance. This is especially true for spare parts that are non-negotiable; if brakes are worn out or lights have failed, they must be replaced,” said Timmy, General Manager of Sumber Berkat, during GIIAS 2026 in BSD on Friday (31/07/2026).

This trend is reflected in the rising sales of several products marketed by Sumber Berkat, ranging from Bendix brake pads and Philips lights to Flosser horns. By mid-year, sales growth has reached double digits and is expected to continue increasing until the end of the year.

“So far, there has been an increase of approximately double digits or even teens. There is even growth around 15 per cent. Most people are indeed using their cars for longer periods than before,” he added.

Optimism is also rising alongside the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, which is believed to boost national automotive market activity, including the aftermarket sector.

Furthermore, component installation is carried out through partner workshops appointed by the company at no cost to the customer, with a primary focus on passenger vehicles, although some commercial vehicles, such as HiAce-based ambulances, are also serviced.

“I remain optimistic. With the GAIKINDO event, I am confident that this year’s results will be higher than last year. Brake and light replacements are conducted at our appointed workshops with free installation. Our focus is indeed on the passenger vehicle aftermarket, though we also service ambulances like the HiAce,” Timmy concluded.
