Spanish flotilla activists to be deported via Turkey, says Albares
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has said that Spanish citizens detained by Israel amid the Global Sumud flotilla humanitarian mission to Gaza will be deported via Turkey on Thursday. ‘The Spanish consul in Israel has just told us that they appear to have been moved to Ramon Airport, together with other activists for deportation… via Turkey,’ Albares told La Hora de La 1. However, he noted that this has not been officially confirmed. ‘That is what has been discussed among the consuls and based on field observations,’ Albares said. The Global Sumud aid fleet said on Tuesday (19/5) that all 50 ships in its convoy have been intercepted by Israeli forces. The fleet carrying 428 people from 44 countries left last week from the Marmaris district in Turkey in the latest effort to breach the illegal blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
