Spain to Form Integrated Response Centre to Tackle Ceuta Migration Crisis

Spain’s Economy Minister, Carlos Cuerpo, has announced that the government will soon establish an integrated response centre to coordinate the efforts of authorities in handling the migration crisis currently affecting Ceuta. This strategic step was taken following a significant surge in the number of migrants entering the territory from Morocco.

At a press conference held on Monday, Cuerpo stated that the government would formally designate the situation in Ceuta as a matter of national security interest. This designation will be enacted through a royal decree scheduled to be adopted by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday local time.

“This step is essential to improve coordination between the various government bodies involved,” Cuerpo said. He added that the authorities in Ceuta had previously submitted a formal request for these emergency measures to be implemented immediately.

The newly formed integrated body will have a cross-sectoral leadership structure to ensure the crisis is handled effectively.

Ceuta, which is a Spanish exclave in North Africa bordering Morocco, has become a hotspot for illegal migration in recent months. Based on data released by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior and local authorities, the situation on the ground has become increasingly pressing.

The establishment of this integrated body is expected to cut through bureaucratic obstacles and accelerate the processing of migrants, both from a humanitarian perspective and in terms of border law enforcement. The Spanish government continues to strive to balance its international obligations with the protection of its sovereign territory in North Africa.
