Spain states almost all immigrants entering Ceuta have returned to Morocco

Geneva/London (ANTARA) - Almost all immigrants who entered Ceuta have returned to Morocco, stated Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, who also called for an end to all misinformation.

“Visits from Ceuta and Melilla to mainland Spain are impossible without identification at police checkpoints,” Albares stated via the social media platform X on Friday. “The integrity of the Schengen area can be fully guaranteed. Stop all intentional misinformation,” he emphasised.

Previously, the Spanish news agency EFE reported that hundreds of immigrants crossed the border from Ceuta to Morocco, following a repatriation agreement between Spain and Morocco. Immigrants also noted that many shops, supermarkets, and restaurants in Ceuta had closed, leaving them unable to meet basic needs.

The Spanish Civil Guard and the No. 54 Regulares unit of the Spanish Army have been deployed along the Tarajal coastal area to prevent the entry of immigrants arriving by sea. According to Spanish authorities, at least 57 people have died during the migration crisis in Ceuta.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described the influx of immigrants into Ceuta since Thursday as an “attack” and a “violation of the territorial integrity of Spain.” He has promised to restore order as quickly as possible.
