Spain Detects Extremists Among Illegal Immigrants to Ceuta

Spanish intelligence services have been deployed to identify radicals who may have entered the city of Ceuta along with a wave of migrants, according to a report by newspaper The Confidential on Monday, citing sources within the Spanish Interior Ministry. Approximately seven kilometres from Ceuta lies the town of Fnideq, known in Spanish as Castillejos, in Morocco. Fnideq is one of the historical centres of Islamist terrorism in the Maghreb region. Spanish intelligence services are considering the possibility that Islamist radical groups from Fnideq may have infiltrated the crowds to enter Spanish territory, the newspaper report added. Law enforcement is also analysing video footage of the mass influx into Ceuta and patrolling the streets of the Spanish autonomous city in North Africa to identify suspected extremists as quickly as possible, The Confidential reported. At the end of July, Ceuta experienced a massive influx of migrants from Morocco. On Friday, 31 July, Mayor and President of Ceuta Juan Jesus Vivas said that around 60,000 people from Morocco had entered the city in just one day. Riots broke out amid the migration crisis, prompting the deployment of additional police, Civil Guard, and military forces.
