Moscow (ANTARA) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Wednesday (28 October) declared three days of national mourning following a train crash in the country.

Earlier that day, two passenger trains collided in central Spain. The president of the regional government of Castile-La Mancha, Emiliano Garcia-Page, said the death toll had reached 68.

“We will declare three days of official mourning, as we did after the train crash in Adamuz. The mourning period will run from 29 to 31 October,” Prime Minister Sanchez told reporters, according to broadcaster RTVE.

Madrid City Council sent hundreds of specialists to the crash site, newspaper ABC reported.

Local authorities had deployed seven fire service teams, including two specialist vehicles for incidents involving large numbers of casualties, two water tankers and 16 ambulances—eight intensive care units and eight support vehicles.
