Spain Builds 500-Metre Sea Wall, Here Is What It Looks Like

The Spanish government has begun installing a 500-metre barrier along the maritime border between the autonomous enclave of Ceuta and Morocco, following a large wave of migrants that killed at least 67 people. Civil Guard officers began installing the barrier on Saturday morning in the Tarajal breakwater area, a coastal stretch that has been the main crossing point for migrants in recent days. Spanish authorities said almost all of the roughly 60,000 migrants who entered Ceuta since Thursday have returned to Morocco voluntarily. At the same time, 22 European Union member states urged an emergency response to the crisis. The death toll from the crossings has now reached at least 67 people. However, Spanish officials warned there may be further casualties on the Moroccan side of the border. The influx of migrants into Ceuta has raised concerns in various EU countries, particularly Schengen area member states that have abolished border checks between countries.
