SpaceX shares have continued to slide, falling below the initial public offering (IPO) price for the first time on Wednesday (17/7), just over a month after the rocket company’s record-breaking market debut on 12 June 2026. The stock has dropped approximately 28% since the IPO, closing at US$115.07 on Friday (24/7), marking a cooling of investor euphoria towards the aerospace manufacturer that previously staged a spectacular stock market entrance.

SpaceX’s share price has fluctuated sharply since the company conducted its historic IPO last month. The offering raised a record US$86 billion and cemented founder Elon Musk as the first person to achieve trillionaire status. The recent decline occurred on the eve of the scheduled 13th Starship test flight, indicating that enthusiasm for the aerospace firm is waning only about a month after its blockbuster debut.

The SpaceX IPO had also sparked a potential hot trend in the market, as major technology companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI were widely reported to be planning their own stock market entries. Both firms have confidentially filed documents for a listing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, though neither has yet announced official IPO plans.

During its first month of trading, SpaceX shares had surged to breach US$225 per share, rocketing roughly 20% on their first full trading day. The stock received an additional boost after being added to the Nasdaq-100 Index, prompting passive investors to purchase shares through funds or investment products tracking the index. SpaceX became eligible for inclusion after Nasdaq amended its eligibility rules for newly listed companies, shortening the waiting period to just 15 trading days. However, the momentum proved short-lived, with shares tumbling below the initial trading price of US$150 per share just one day after entering the index.
